Adam's Peak (Sri Pada)

Sri Lanka · Hike
GPS 6.8096° N, 80.4994° E Elevation 2243 m a.s.l. Type Hike Difficulty Demanding Season December to May

A sacred mountain with a footprint at the top. The night climb of 5,000 to 5,500 steps takes 3 to 4 hours according to guidebooks. I turned back just below the summit because of the queue.

TipsWhat to know beforehand

The season runs roughly from December to May (from the December full moon to the Wesak festival in May). Outside it the monsoon sets in, the trail is not lit and the stalls are closed. There are crowds around the full moon, so try a weeknight. Take a headlamp, layers and sturdy shoes.
