Two Fingers is a really lovely place where you have real privacy and are still in one site. There are maringotky (traditional Czech wooden wagon cabins), cottages and lookout cabins spread over a seven-hectare plot near Krabčice, not far from Česká Skalice. I stayed in the Volavka wagon cabin, and Amazing Places named Two Fingers the best glamping in 2021, 2023 and 2024.

What is Two Fingers and what makes it special?

The site lies at the very end of the small village of Krabčice. It has seven hectares, two breeding ponds, a meadow and a forest. The cottages and lookout cabins Lišák and Ledňáček stand on a two-hectare meadow about 100 metres apart, and the wagon cabins and the Vážka lookout cabin are secluded down by the water. Because of that you feel like you are alone, and yet you are a few steps from reception. You walk to your accommodation, and you park at reception. No building is firmly attached to the ground, they stand on screw piles or chassis.

In the morning you wake up to birdsong and nobody knocks on your door. No television, just peace.

What is the Volavka wagon cabin like?

Volavka stands by the water: a pond with reeds and a bend of the stream with a babbling weir. You sleep in a king size double bed (and in my opinion these are really fantastic beds with sheep wool duvets), a cast-iron stove keeps you warm, and the kitchenette has a fridge, a gas stove and a sink. The shower is outside, with hot water, and the toilet is a few metres from the wagon cabin. It is outdoors, but it flushes and has a view of the forest.

What is it like to sleep in the wagon cabin?

From the bed you look through a large glass wall straight into the forest, and in the morning you hear the birds. Down among the trees the stream babbles, and in the evening the wood crackles in the stove. The bed is great, big and comfortable, with lovely fragrant duvets. Even in winter it is no problem, because the fire crackles in the stove. The outdoor shower is for the hardy: the water runs warm, but in the colder months it is real glamping.

Is there a sauna and a dip in the stream?

Yes. There is a sauna on the site, and you can book a specific time slot so you have it to yourself. The sauna is really big and has a large rest area. Towels, sheets, fresh water in a jug and a speaker you can connect to are included. Cooling off is properly spartan, right in the stream, which is a real mountain stream and properly cold. Highly recommended! The Rod cottage also has a private sauna.

What about breakfast, trout and pálenka?

They bring you breakfast. In the morning you find it on the terrace in a box or on a tray, and it is included in the price of the stay. With it you can make coffee from Doubleshot or tea from Sonnentor. You can also order fresh trout and Two Fingers' own pálenka (fruit brandy), for example the apple one. We grilled the trout with mushrooms on the fire pit.

What else is on the site?

The two breeding ponds are available for catch and release fishing (there are trophy grass carp and silver carp, and in my opinion common carp too). Ducks also live on the pond. Dogs are welcome, and the nearest road is almost a kilometre (about 0.6 miles) away.

What cabins do they have and what is special about them?

  • Volavka wagon cabin: by the water, a pond with reeds and a stream with a weir, an outdoor shower and toilet, a cast-iron stove.
  • Pomněnka wagon cabin: a jetty above the fish tank, a terrace with loungers, minimalist and playful design.
  • Vážka lookout cabin: on the pond shore, a window above your head, its own shower and flush toilet, infrared panels instead of a stove.
  • Lišák lookout cabin: on the border of the meadow and the forest, a big window onto the forest, a small axe for chopping kindling for the fire.
  • Ledňáček lookout cabin: on the border of the meadow and the forest, a terrace with a fire pit and a hammock.
  • Vesna cottage: swings inside and outside, a view of the meadow and the forests on the other side of the valley.
  • Lada cottage: a big bath in the middle of the cottage and a view of the valley.
  • Rod cottage: at the end of the meadow by the forest, a private sauna.
  • Diva cottage: two terraces, a set of chimes and lots of unusual musical instruments.

What is near Two Fingers?

The site lies roughly seven kilometres (4 miles) from both Jaroměř and Kuks, so it is a good base for the Podkrkonoší foothills and the Krkonoše mountains, and the Broumov and Adršpach rocks.

  • Babiččino údolí (Grandmother's Valley) in Česká Skalice and Ratibořice chateau
  • The Babiččino údolí educational trail, about 7.5 km (4.7 miles) from Barunka's school in Česká Skalice along the Úpa river to Ratibořice
  • Kuks Hospital and the surrounding baroque sites
  • Adršpach-Teplice Rocks and the Broumov region
  • walks in the forest around the site and mushroom picking

We went to Babiččino údolí by bike and it was a nice trip along the trail of Božena Němcová (the author of the classic novel Babička, The Grandmother). The valley is easy to ride by bike, and it is worth stopping at Ratibořice chateau. I describe the whole bike trip in a separate article.

My experience

I spent two days here in the Volavka wagon cabin: lighting the fire and trout with mushrooms, the sauna, the morning birds and the view of the forest from the bed. You can find the reel on Instagram. The place has the profile @twofingerscz.
